Making migration great again: challenges and opportunities of the UN Global Compact for Migration

newsimageWith the adoption of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants by the UN General Assembly, states have launched an ambitious process of inter-governmental negotiations that will lead to the adoption of a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration. This Lunch briefing will discuss the challenges and opportunities of the global compact to address the multidimensional reality of migration, improve the governance of migration and strengthen the human rights of migrants and their positive contribution to sustainable development. Dr. Vincent Chetail is Professor of International Law, Director of the Global Migration Centre and Head of the International Law Department.
